Chapter 1 InputKing basics

1.1 InputKing dictionaries

InputKing has two kinds of dictionaries, i.e. "Local" dictionary and "Remote" dictionary. Local dictionary is the one downloaded from InputKing server when a user clicked the "Start" button. Remote dictionary is the one kept on InputKing server.

Local dictionary is a subset of remote dictionary. Its data size is about 300K bytes.

You can use both local and remote dictionaries at the same time, or only one of them, to type Chinese. If you just want to input a few Chinese characters (for example, a keyword for searching Google), we suggest you selecting "Don't use" local dictionary before clicking "Start" button. Thus, you can open the input window faster and reduce the load of InputKing server.

When you type Chinese, the smaller text area on the left of user interface displays the candidate words. The candidate words change according to the code you have typed. The candidate words in remote dictionary do not show up until you push "Enter" key after you inputted the corresponding code. Therefore, even you could not find the phrase you want, don't worry, just type the code and push "Enter". As the remote dictionary is very large, in most cases, you will not be disappointed.

1.3 User interface

Append Mode
"Append Mode", a function of previous version, can solve the problem with some browsers that the selected candidate word cannot be inserted at the right location (for example, selected word is always inserted at the beginning of the text). Under "Append Mode", when you input Chinese characters, they will usually been appended to the rear of the text. If you want to insert Chinese characters in the middle of text, you have to type two equal signs "==" as an indicator at the intended location first. After finishing the text insertion, you have to delete the indicator. You can do so by simply clicking the "Del ==" button. Please note that the text in input area cannot scroll properly under "Append Mode", therefore it is difficult to edit a long article.
Highlight & Lookup When this option is checked, if you highlight a word in edit area, the system will automatically look up in specific dictionary using highlighted word. This function can be used to increase the reading speed of a Chinese article (What you need to do is just to paste the article into the edit area).
Dict.CN Dict. When this option is checked, the system will use Dict.CN dictionary. InputKing uses two dictionaries: English-Chinese dictionary and Chinese-English dictionary.
Input Code Dict. When this option is checked, the system will use Pronunciation and Input Code dictionary. The dictionary includes character pronunciation used in both mainland China and Taiwan.
Chinese Dict. When this option is checked, the system will use Online Xinhua Dictionary.

You can look up in specific dictionary by pushing "Enter" key or clicking "Lookup" button after inputting a word in the text field.
This button will show up when you use Internet Explorer. By clicking this button, you can copy inputted text into clipboard. Then you can paste it into other place.
This button will show up when you use other browser than Internet Explorer. Clicking this button will highlight the text in edit area. If you are using Windows, you need to push “Ctrl-C” keys to copy the highlighted text to clipboard.
This button will show up when you use Internet Explorer. By clicking this button, you can copy the HTML codes of inputted text into clipboard.
This button will show up when you use other browser than Internet Explorer. By clicking this button, you can display the HTML codes of inputted text below the edit area.

Chapter 2 VIP user services

2.1 General information on VIP user services

There are two kinds of VIP users: "Official VIP User" and "Temporary VIP User". While everybody can become a Temporary VIP user, only those who have donated to our website can become an Official VIP User. Currently there are three VIP services, i.e. Private Dictionary, Save Draft and Favorite Sites.

2.2 Private dictionary

VIP users can define frequently used words and phrases that do not exist in InputKing dictionary in their private dictionary, so that they can be inputted directly instead of character by character. Using private dictionary can greatly increase input efficiency.

Inputting a phrase defined in private dictionary is same as using remote dictionary, i.e. pushing "Enter" key after typing the code for the phrase.

2.3 Save draft

When you have to temporarily stop editing, you can use "Save Draft" function to quickly save the text you have inputted. This function is especially suitable to edit a long article which you cannot finish at once.

2.4 Favorite sites

VIP users can put the links to their favorite websites on InputKing website, so that they can quickly access their favorite websites on any computer just like using their own computer.

Chapter 3 How to use various input methods

3.1 PinYin (拼音)

If a character does not have consonant and is not the first character of a word, "'" must be typed at the beginning of its PinYin. For example, when you input the word 西安(xī'ān, a city of China), you should type "xi'an", not "xian", as its PinYin code.

"v" is used to represent the vowel "ü".

The maximum length of PinYin code is 12 letters.
